An Ode to 2016

It all started pretty well;Smile and Kim
You had me under your spell.
First year of only swim, bike, run;
How could it not be fun?

The hours were high;
So good form was nigh.
But I was only a month in
When you started to sin.

This extraordinary pain;
Meant I just couldn’t train.
I turned out to be in a mess;
With issues I had to confess.img_20160610_135754.jpg

Four weeks off;
Oh great mazel tov!
But I knew it was key;
To ensure I’d be pain free.

When it was time to start;
I realised triathlon was an art.
How could I get fit once more;
God injuries are a bore.

The road back to racing;Kim
I seemed to be acing.
Well until my sister’s partay;
Where I went a little cray!

So yes my first race I missed;
Because I was pissed.
My Coach did have to echo;
“I told you NO prosecco!”

But no time to sigh;
As I was ready to fly.
Off to the mountains;
Where there are many fountains.

In the land of thin air;
Training was anything but fair.20160622_124946.jpg
Those climbs just kept rising;
Anything but surprising.

When it was time for a Sprint;
I felt anything but mint.
But I had smile on the face;
Because you were giving me grace.

It was then time to return to tax;
Which really pushed me to the max.
That training, work juggle;
Oh boy it’s a struggle!

An Olympic showed good form;
With everything going back to the norm.
I was soon back under the gun;67538167-_dwp0737.jpg
Got to love a little park run.

Well until I stopped;
To breakfast I just hopped.
What a horrid pain in my foot;
It seems I was kaput.

November I was back on the farm;
With nothing but a working arm.
This month was going to be long;
Thanks to everyone who kept me strong.

A December trip to the sun;20161203_180201.jpg
Was more than just fun.
It reminded me to laugh;
Even if I had a pain in the calf.

So yes 2016 you have been grim;
But least I have improved my swim.
So Happy New Year;
Its time to get into gear!

Lastly, a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me through 2016 and continue to believe in me. Yes, it was not the easiest or most straightforward of years but thanks to this belief I know there are  years of success, smiles and laughs to come – and for that I am thankful.

Happy New Year and may 2017 be a good one for us all!

Lots of love,
